Star Anise, also known as Chakra Phool or Badiyan, is sourced from the hills of Arunachal Pradesh and selected for its distinctive star-shaped pods, deep brown colour and naturally sweet-spicy aroma. We clean and sort every batch by eye, picking out broken arms, stalks and dust, so you open the pack to whole, eight-pointed stars, each with a glossy brown seed tucked into every point.

Taste & Aroma

Sweet, warm and intensely aromatic, with anise notes. The flavour is slightly woody and spicy, becoming fuller as the whole pod slowly infuses into hot oil while cooking.

Arunachal Pradesh's humid, subtropical hill country is well suited to aromatic tree spices, including whole star anise. The star-shaped fruits are picked while still green and then sun-dried until they turn the deep rust-brown you see in the pack, with a shiny seed in each point of the star.
